The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
Well, that’s not exactly how the song goes, but it does have a good ring to it!
This past weekend I discovered a new park near Dade City on the Withlacoochee River. Such a nice county park! The view along the river was just beautiful with a small little dock overlooking the dark black tea stained water. I set up to paint a view downstream of some cypress trees along the bank. As I painted I saw a bass bolt into the shallow water in front of me to snatch a minnow – oh boy, it was lightning fast!
Last weekend I attended a painting seminar (more on that later), and tried a few new techniques for this painting. One major change was going larger from an 8×10″ panel to an 11×14″ panel. Those few inches sure made a huge difference in the amount of brush work!
The park was beautiful. There is a trail to an observation tower, and more boardwalks along the river. I didn’t have time to hike around, so I know I’ll be going back again to hike, see some wildflowers, canoe down the river and paint!
