The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Way down yonder on the Withlacoochee

Well, that’s not exactly how the song goes, but it does have a good ring to it!

This past weekend I discovered a new park near Dade City on the Withlacoochee River. Such a nice county park! The view along the river was just beautiful with a small little dock overlooking the dark black tea stained water. I set up to paint a view downstream of some cypress trees along the bank. As I painted I saw a bass bolt into the shallow water in front of me to snatch a minnow – oh boy, it was lightning fast!

Last weekend I attended a painting seminar (more on that later), and tried a few new techniques for this painting. One major change was going larger from an 8×10″ panel to an 11×14″ panel. Those few inches sure made a huge difference in the amount of brush work!

The park was beautiful. There is a trail to an observation tower, and more boardwalks along the river. I didn’t have time to hike around, so I know I’ll be going back again to hike, see some wildflowers, canoe down the river and paint!

Looks like a lovely place to paint Sharon,Sadly it appears the I most likely will not be able totravel that far again given that they have once againdenied my husband a portable continuous flow oygen machine and all he has is two 2 hr portable ones.I am a bit terrified what we will do if a hurricane comesand we have to go to shelter to be safe.  They say theywill deliver oxygen to the shelter but given we waited2 TWO whole months and had to still make another phonecall to get a 50 foot new tubing..the main line for him ITRULY  doubt that they will deliver on time anything andfor sure not during a hurricane ..H has to have it for hissleep apnea machine even.. so it appears we cannot evenvisit family in Ft. Lauderdale let alone those that live outof state..  They told him he already had what he needs. Well hm sure would like to put those people in his  positionand see what they would do.Lovely photos of a beautiful place..  Margé
