The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
The entrance road to Faver-Dykes State Park near St. Augustine is easy to find if you know to exit off I-95 and look behind the bright orange signs of the pecan stand! The paved road turns into a bumpy dirt road to the park.
Once inside the park, beautiful Pellicer creek is just on the right. I set up to paint near a dock area where Rick tried some fishing. Above our heads some cormorants were chatting with each other in the pine tree. It worried me some, so I moved my easel over a few feet so as not to get “dropped” on!
It was quiet peaceful morning with just ourselves and nature. Rick wasn’t having any luck catching fish. Then a man came by with his brand new Walmart rod and reel. He took the wrapper off, walked over to the dock and made a test cast. With his first cast he caught a nice flounder! Rick was incredulous! He had just spent over an hour in that same spot with no bites at all. Just goes to show, you don’t need fancy equipment, just good timing and a bit of luck!
