The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #80 – John U. Lloyd Beach State Park

I pulled into John U. Lloyd Beach State Park very early in the morning. It was a bright morning with a bit of smoky haze from fires in everglades. The first thing that greeted me when I got out of the car was the bright magenta flowers of the Railroad Vine. They were so pretty glowing in the morning sun. I found a spot on the beach to paint right away. It was a classic palm tree on a curving beach with the pier in the distance. As I painted, some planes going to Ft. Lauderdale airport passed by and so did a cute little Yellow Crowned Night Heron. Off in the distance silhouettes of huge cargo ships sat on the horizon. After painting I explored some other areas of the park. I saw a group of pre-teens learning to fish on the shores of Wiskey Creek. Then I went over to the boat ramp area and got a view across the waterway to a cruise terminal with some large yachts floating by. All of this beach scenery, and I was just about the only person there! It is surprising that a beautiful beach park so close to town was almost deserted. I guess it really does pay to be an early bird! For more information about this park, visit their website
