The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #79 – Dr. Julien G. Bruce St. George Island State Park

When we drove over the bridge to St. George Island State Park there was lighthouse right at the end of the road. We stopped and took some photos of the pretty little lighthouse. Then drove on down to the park. It was only about 9am and we had most of the park to ourselves! Well at least for awhile. We checked out the beach, and then drove over to the kayak launch on the bay side. Then we drove even further down to another boat launch to near the end of the island. I hiked the trail over to the bay side. It was all pretty to see. There are high sand dunes lining the main road and they really were interesting. I decided I wanted to paint the dunes with a water view, but the beach was on the other side of the road! Then as I was walking over one of the high pavilion boardwalks to the beach, I noticed that from there I could see the bay behind the dunes. So I set up to paint right on the stairs. Since there weren’t many people at the park yet, I wasn’t in the way. By the time I was done with my painting the parking lot was starting to fill up with cars.
