The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
We visited Blackwater River State Park just east of Pensacola after a long day of driving from central Florida. It was mid-afternoon and a few families were enjoying the cool water on this sunny day. I have seen photos of this river with large sandy banks along the edges, and I expected to paint something like that. But recent rains meant the river was high and flowing, so I set up to paint on the small beach and painted a little cove with some lily pads.
The water here is “black.” Not dirty, just stained a dark tea color from the trees. Rick fished right next to me and caught a nice bass too.

Beautiful painting Sharon!! Some great photos too.. Your husbandsure does catch some beautiful bass. I remember in Michigan that Taquaminin Falls in the upper peninsula had water the color of root beer going over the falls..FROM the tannin. Was quite a sight seeing it. Thanks for sharing your painting theparks journey!! I am enjoying it! Margé
Thank you Marge! The river here was very pretty and natural. We saw several canoes go by. There were many tube rental places nearby, so I know that the river is full of tubers now!
I am glad you enjoying the tour!
