The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park # 68 – Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park

Traffic on the four lane highway that leads to Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park seemed busy for the late morning, but once we pulled into the park, the crowds disappeared. We only ran into a few people as we walked around the park.

I walked down the steps to the bayou and set up to paint the view of a pine leaning over the tannin stained water. After painting we enjoyed a lunch at one of the many picnic tables. Then we heard a loud BOOM and smoke started rising from across the bayou! At first we were startled and didn’t know what in the world was going on! Then we realized we were near Eglin AFB, and they must be dropping bombs.

Other than the brief moment of excitement, this was a very quiet and peaceful park.

    Thank you Marge!
The booms only happened twice. Not sure if they do that all the time, Sure did add a bit of excitement though!
