The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Painting #64 – Tarklin Bayou Preserve State Park

We arrived at Tarklin Bayou Preserve State Park on a sunny clear morning. This park is on the west side of Pensacola, but even morning traffic through town wasn’t bad at all. This park doesn’t have the big entrance, pavilions and parking areas that some parks do, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth visiting!

The unpaved parking area is actually quite small, maybe room for 10 cars at the most. So it was surprising that the trail to the dock on the bay is a paved sidewalk with a nice boardwalk over the wetland areas. From the boardwalk you overlook many types of wildflowers and carnivorous plants including sundews, pitcher plants and wild orchids.

I decided to paint at the end of the boardwalk overlooking the shoreline of the bay. The sky was a clear blue with little white puffy clouds floating by.

There is more to the park on the opposite side of the road and we tried to hike out to see more pitcher plants, but the huge mosquitos chased off!
