The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Painting #63 – Perdido Key State Park

We just got back from a painting trip to the Florida panhandle area, and started with the farthest west you can go and still be in Florida! Perdido Key is not far from the Florida Alabama state line just west of Pensacola. The beach is on a slender strip of barrier island. Driving through town, you can see remnants of the old beach life, but the new condo high rise buildings are beginning to take over. Thankfully this park preserves some beach and dunes on the bay side as well. The last time I was on this part of the gulf coast, the waves were almost non-existant and the ocean waters beautiful turquoise and blue. This time the waves were thundering in much like the Atlantic. Surprised to not see any surfers!

I kicked off my shoes and set up to paint the beach in the late afternoon sun.

    Thanks Margie!
it was weird that the beach was uncrowded. A nice local lady spoke to us for awhile, she couldn’t figure out why there was no one else around either. That was fine with me though! I love having a beach to myself😀
