The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
While visiting Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, we took a side trip to Everglades City to have a lunch and sightsee in this old Florida town. I had never been and was expecting a little run-down fishing town, and was surprised to see such fancy historic buildings around town. In 1922 Barron Collier brought money to the town while the Tamiami Trail was being built. During this time several grand old buildings were constructed, and they still stand today. A must see is the Rod and Gun Club. Walking through it’s doors is like traveling back in time. Old stuffed panthers, alligators, bears and dozens of different fish adorn the old cypress walls. The furnishings haven’t changed in years. It is unbelievable how authentically Old Florida this place remains.
