The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #52 – Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park

On the way to this park down highway 29, there were high chain link fences and signs that read “Panther Crossing.” I drove carefully hoping to spot a seldom seen Florida Panther, but no luck!

It started off a clear morning, but as we arrived at the park the wind from a nearby fire was blowing smoke directly over us. This made for a rough time to be standing out painting. I couldn’t stand the smoke smell too long, and the colors in the painting look a bit hazy – just like the weather conditions! I would like to go to this park again and really explore it’s classic old Florida swampy areas.

We did drive a few minutes down the road to explore Everglades City. Look for more about this cool little town in my next post!
