The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park # 50 Manatee Springs State Park

Wow – up to 50 paintings of Florida’s State Parks! Now just under 100 more to do before the end of the year. This was my first visit to Manatee Springs State Park. The water here was just a wonderful color! I would have loved to paint the spring, but there were so many kids and swimmers I just couldn’t safely set up where I wanted to. So we walked on the wooden boardwalk down the spring run towards the Suwannee River. As we were walking we heard a PLOP! It was a squirrel that had jumped or fallen off a tree. I can happily report that squirrels can swim like champs! He made it over to another tree unharmed. I found a spot on the boardwalk to paint the view of the cypress lined river. The water here was clear, but dark and black from the cypress trees. On the way home we spotted more wildflowers along the road and saw a few Indian Paintbrush flowers. These are not common at all in Florida and this was the first time I’ve seen them! Normally they are blooming in Texas with the Bluebonnets. Spring is in full bloom around Florida – get out and enjoy! For more information on this park visit their website

Hi Margé! I have’t painted at Blue Spring’s yet for the tour. I have been before and it is very pretty. It gets so busy there – I’m waiting for a day with fewer crowds to visit that one. Manatee Springs was beautiful, but crazy with swimmers. The perfect spot to paint was right were all the kids and swimmers were jumping in – a bit too wet & noisy for me!
