The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
This was the first time I had been to Lake Kissimmee State Park, but I will definitely go back again! It is a very large park aong Lake Kissimmee. From the entrance gate, a long winding road with pine flats and oak hammocks leads you to the canal that empties out to the big lake. There is a store and boat ramp here. A short walk leads you to an observation tower with views out across the prairie grass to the lake. It didn’t take me long to pick a spot – under a huge live oak, with the morning light making the new spring growth just glow! So many colors were on what should have been a dingy grey tree trunk – the light was reflecting red from the fallen leaves with lavenders and blues and greens – oh my! I might’ve gotten carried away!
After painting we had lunch overlooking the canal, and then enjoyed a hike through the oaks and pines. In the summer they have a “cowboy camp.” I think I’ll go back and maybe paint some cowboys!
