The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #41 – Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park

I love palm trees in paintings, so when I saw these tall old Sable Palms along Bulow Creek, choosing a spot to paint was easy! The park wasn’t very busy, so I set up my easel right on the dock overlooking the tidal creek. The sun was very low in the sky, casting shadows over most of the trees. After painting, Rick wanted to continue fishing, so I explored the old sugar mill ruins. I knew I was alone on the dark shaded trail when I heard footsteps – it was a turkey! The ruins were interesting, and I could see similarities to the ruins at Yulee Sugar Mill State Park, but Bulow was a much bigger operation.

This is a very scenic area near the Ormond Loop, and I am adding a canoe trip up Bulow Creek on my list of things to do!
