The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
The first time we visited Colt Creek State Park was in the late summer. It was blooming all around with wildflowers and the trails were dry. Colt Creek State Park was quite a bit different this time we visited! A rainy September and November left the lakes flooded and the trails muddy and ankle deep with water in many places. I did find a nice marshy place to paint near the main pavilion. I stood along the road and painted the view of the marsh. While I painted a wedding party was having fun in the pavilion, people rode their horses along the trail behind me, and the birds foraged in the marsh all around me. Since the trails were too wet to walk, we didn’t get to see much around the park. A family from Japan was visiting. They ended up here when they were trying to find a park for the Green Swamp. They were disappointed when I told them there wasn’t a park there, they really wanted to see a real Florida swamp! They did get a little taste & saw some gators in the pond.
