The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #23 – Lafayette Blue Springs State Park

Just how many different springs are named “Blue Springs” in Florida? I’m not exactly sure! There must be at least a dozen.

Lafayette Blue Springs State Park is one of them. Situated along the Suwannee River, the spring bubbles out and makes a short run to the Suwannee. There is a natural bridge of limestone that you can walk over, and a swimming area too. The recent rains had muddied up the water, so the spring wasn’t very clear while we were there.

I chose to paint the view looking up river from the boat ramp. The sunlight was hitting the far shore, and the small tree in front of me was just bare branches. After painting and watching the sunset, we had an easy walk to our cabin. This cabin was very similar to the one at Suwannee River. Still amazed at just how nice these cabins are! The cabins don’t have TV’s, but I downloaded a movie from itunes and we watched it on my ipad. It was a perfect end to a great day exploring the parks.

Thanks Marge! This painting was tough for me, the leafless tree in shade was difficult to do!
