The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location

Park #20 – Madison Blue Springs

On the way to Madison Blue Springs, Siri got us lost! We finally figured out the right direction and pulled into the park. Their ranger station is a vintage old travel trailer – kinda cute, but almost felt more like it should be a hot dog stand! The ranger said the springs weren’t that clear due to all the recent rain, but I am on a mission.

Madison Blue Springs is a small park right along the Withlacoochee River.
Did you know there are two Withlacoochee Rivers in Florida? They aren’t connected at all, with this one being up in northern Florida and flowing south into the Suwannee River. The other Withlacoochee is in central Florida and flows north into the Gulf of Mexico near Yankee Town.

The Spring was flowing, but was slightly cloudy, and since the skies were also cloudy and overcast – I am sure we didn’t get to see it at it’s finest. I set up to paint a cypress tree that was on a small little spit of dirt which the spring water flowed by. Rick was fishing along the banks of the Witlacoochee and I told him I saw a bass swimming his way. He made a cast and caught him! He was released to go make more little bass for future fishermen…
