The Florida State Park Plein Air Painting Tour – Painting each of Florida's State Parks on location
When I got to this park, I couldn’t believe I forgot my camera! Luckily the Iphone did a good job capturing some of the beautiful scenery at this park just north of Dunnellon.
I arrived on a sunny, but chilly morning and almost no cars in the parking lot. During the summer this park is packed with swimmers and tubers, so it was nice to have the park so quiet without a swimmer in sight! I walked around and took some photos of the blooming asters along the water. These have been blooming just great all over Florida this year. I decided the light was better for painting on the other side, so I headed back up the hill. This hill gives a great overview of the spring and its fabulous colors.
There were a few people walking around enjoying the gardens, and as I painted I heard this “YELP”! A man was walking his 12 week old cocker spaniel puppies and one was terrified of me and wouldn’t walk by. He had never seen a painter before and was so afraid. I kneeled down and talked nice to him and gave him a pat. Then he was happy with his new experience and walked by.
Soon I was done with painting and took another walk around the park. Rainbow Springs was a tourist attraction in the past, and they built up waterfalls and gardens along the spring run. As I walked I could see some smaller spring boils bubbling up. Overall it was just a great day to be outside enjoying a Florida State Park.
